Levels Wnion and Mawddach: see state
of water
|
Welcome
to this new game fishing web site which describes our extensive
fisheries
- 13 miles of prime sea trout and salmon pools on the rivers Mawddach
and Wnion are available together with a well stocked brown and rainbow
trout
lake,
Llyn Cynwch.
Night
fishing for sea trout compares with the best in the country and they
are being caught now (June) in our lower reaches. Our licence's
are very reasonable. Recent seasons have had some of the best fish returns
for the whole of Wales and this reflects our intensive, consistent
program
of stocking both salmon and sea trout in our rivers from the Environment
Agency Hatchery. Sea trout of 21 pounds have been caught and double figure
fish are not a rarity.
Llyn
Cynwch is a joy to fish set in outstanding scenery and regularly
stocked
with
high
quality
brown
and rainbow
trout - exhaust
yourself - fish our lake during the day and our rivers at night
- when
will you find time to sleep?!!
Accommodation in the area is of the highest quality ranging from high
class hotels through to well run camp sites. There is plenty for
families
to do from some of Wales best beaches through to fabulous mountainous
scenery with Cader Idris, the second highest mountain in Wales,
towering above. There are not many places in the United Kingdom
where you can
get such varied quality game fishing, a range of facilities for the family,
be surrounded by scenery second to none, see the Red Kite circle
overhead
and
have the
company of otters.
Come and enjoy!! This is God's country - there is nowhere like it.

This
superb salmon was caught by local expert Vic Roberts
on the Mawddach at Ganllwyd using a prawn - shows the
quality fish that can be caught on our waters! |

Llyn
Cynwch has continued to fish spectacularly well both for fly and
bait fishermen. The quality of fish and size had never been better.
Come and have a go and see for yourself! The lake has
been extensively stocked with quality fish, stocking takes place
every two to three weeks. The beginning of the season has been
superb over the past few seasons, the largest caught being over
5lb! Fly and bait have been equally successful. Send us your photos
of what you catch to put on the web site. Make full use of this
wonderful opportunity to catch quality fish. Here is a photograph
of a young local gentleman with an excellent catch of fish caught
on the first day of the 2009 season. Hooked for life! (see our
reports page).

Important news (2012)
For people fly fishing our lake (2012) - Llyn Cynwch - see Rules
(Rule 10) on our Licences page.
All rod caught salmon and sea trout cannot now be sold. The only
source for these wild fish is from registered netsman who have
to tag their carcasses. This is a new
law effective from the 2011 season. Any wild caught salmon
and sea trout now has to be tagged by a licenced netsman. If you
are offered wild salmon or sea trout in a restaurant and have
reason to believe that these have come from illegal sources, please
contact the Environment Agency Incident Line on 0800 80 70 60
immediately. If you notice any poaching activity, please use this
number as well - all calls are logged by the E.A. If you do not
report such incidences (you can remain anonymous) nothing will
get done about it! This is very important.
Note the other very important changes to our rules on our Licences
page - ignorance is no excuse! These changes are in line with
changes to the rules of the Prince Albert Angling Society. The
main reason for these important changes is the conservation of
our salmonid stocks.
Interesting report from Canada showing the value of well managed
hatchery fish, their importance to fishermen and dispelling
the myth that hatcheries are a waste of time - available as
a download.
News Flash - sea trout and salmon
have been seen already on our tidal section, if you do not fish
for them, you will not catch them!! High water a couple of days
ago.

On waters controlled by our Association, there is a strictly fly only rule during
